La Grande Swim Club Handbook
The La Grande Swim Club (LGSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit club that has maintained a presence in Union County for over 56 years. We currently offer 5 terms of swimming throughout the year and instruct kids from beginners to national champions. We serve recreational and competitive swimmers and encourage, facilitate and challenge all kids to achieve their personal and swimming goals.
There is a clear progression of kids through the club according to their ability and ambition. In addition to the individual swimming skills gained, LGSC stresses the development of life skills, sportsmanship, discipline and commitment to training and the team. Swimmers have the opportunity to participate in numerous regional meets throughout the year, including at least in La Grande.
LGSC’s Local Swim Committee (LSC) is Inland Empire Swimming [IES] which in turn is a member of USA Swimming. IES is the regional (Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho) governing body that oversees a club’s adherence to the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations. They coordinate the scheduling and sanctioning of regional swim meets as well as train and certify swim meet officials.
For more information on IES and to access their many valuable resources go to www.ieswim.org. Individual membership of IES/USA Swimming is required by every swimmer to provide insurance and to allow participation in swim meets, which is handled at Registration.
LGSC offers a one-week free trial period during the first week of any term. This week gives both the swimmer the opportunity to try being a part of the club and the coaches the time to evaluate the swimmer and determine their swimming needs.
